“My message to people is, if they are unsure whether they are due free care… take advice”

Judith Roe, reclaimed £130,000. Ms Roe, who sadly died last October, reclaimed her care home fees after her Alzheimer’s disease and associated medical problems were classed as ‘social’ rather than ‘health related’ by her local health authority and was made to sell her own home to help pay for her care home fees.

Rod Johnson, reclaimed £51,500. Mr Johnson was left partially paralysed following a brain haemorrhage but his local care trust deprived him of free care following an incorrect assessment. His brother Stephen said, “My message to people is, if they are unsure whether they are due free care, then take advice, because the NHS won’t offer it easily”.

Marjorie Eyton-Jones, reclaimed £165,000. After 6 years of paying care home fees, the family of Mrs Eyton-Jones received £165,000 which the NHS admitted the family had been wrongly charged for. After previously been told that Mrs Eyton-Jones required 24 hour nursing care, she was denied free care because of assets totalling above £23,000.
